Bonjour,
Magnifique !
Here is another member of the "Guardia Nazionale a Cavallo di Roma" :
It is annotated on the back (in German) as "Graf Lovatelli Johann".
From the plates and photos in "La Guardia Nazionale Italiana 1861-1876" (beautiful book by Stefano ALES), it seems this uniform pattern is for the other ranks (either "milite" or "sotto-ufficiale") - with braiding ending with trefoil, while officers seem to have loops at the end of each row of braiding.
Here is another photo - a 1890s reprint, probably showing the Guardia Nazionale a Cavallo in Napoli, as this is where the studio was located :
While a bit grubby, we can see the "beretto", and the specific design of the "Guardia Nazionale" Sabretache ("tasca-sciabola").
A curious point : on the references in "La Guardia Nazionale Italiana 1861-1876", all uniforms show 6 rows of braiding ("treccia") ; this one has seven !
And, last on (I believe) this subject, a nice CDV taken in Treviso - with a slightly different uniform :
- First the colback apparently has a full Plume, rather than a Feather, and misses the star on its front ;
- Only 5 rows of "treccia" (vs 6)
- The cuff ornamentation is also something different, with a big simple trefoil.
The general design, likely colours, and "bandoliera" are however very consistent with the other uniforms.
Any information welcome !
